PPE Reimbursement Programs

Couple notes before you review the list…
1. Programs in red have expired.
2. Comments around the use of D1999 are included for most.
3. Check with each plan specifically for additional requirements (i.e., EFT enrollment)

Delta Dental Plans:

  • Big Delta (CA, NY, PA, et. al) announced a supplemental reimbursement of $10 for evaluations from June 22 – December 31, 2020.
    • The $10 reimbursement will be automatically applied to claims where one of 12 qualifying codes is used: D0120, D0140, D0145, D0150, D0160, D0170, D0180, D0190, D0191, D8660, D9310 and D9430.
    • YOU MUST ADD $10 TO THE CODE. If you are entering your current contracted rate, you will not receive the additional amount. Submit past claims for correction if you did not receive them.
    • Does not require D1999.
    • You must be an in-network provider.
    • Program was originally intended to expire in September but was renewed through the end of 2020.

  • Hawaii Dental Service – $10 supplemental payment per visit from May 1 through July 31.
  • Delta Dental of KS – $10 per patient from June 1 through July 31.
  • Delta Dental Northeast – $10 per visit from May 1 through June 30.
  • Delta Dental MA – $10 per visit from June 1 through August 31.
    • Bulk payment, does not require D1999.
  • Delta Dental AZ – $10 per visit from April 1 – July 31.
    • Bulk payment, does not require D1999.

Other Payers:

  • United Healthcare providing between $5-$10 based on exams from June 24 through December 31, 2020.
    • Amounts are per enrollee and based on evaluation codes as follows: D0120 & D0145 – $5, D0140 & D0150 – $10
    • Bulk payment, D1999 not required.
    • Requires providers to opt-in via the UHC provider portal.
    • See bulletin below for additional information.
  • Principal offering $7 per patient visit beginning June 1.
    • Automatically added to the claim payment.
    • Does not require submission of D1999.
  • Metlife – offering $8 per patient visit from September 1 – October 26.
    • Must include D1999.
  • United Concordia is offering $10 per patient visit for the months of May and June 2020. **As of 6/26/20, program is extended through 9/30/20. Original Link below.
    • Must include D1999 for reimbursement.
  • Dental Care Plus $10 fee per visit for in-network providers for May and June 2020.
    • Bulk payment, does not require filing D1999.
  • Cigna – $8 per visit from June 15 – July 31.
    • Must include D1999 for reimbursement.
  • Humana – $7 per visit from June 1 – September 30.
    • Paid monthly based on claims for fully insured members.
  • Empire BCBS – $10 per visit from June 15 – Aug 31.
  • Anthem – $10 per visit from June 15 – Aug 31.
  • Dominion Dental – $5 per visit from June 15 – December 31.
  • CareFirst $7 per visit from June 1 -October 31.
    • Must include D1999.
    • Originally planned to expire August 31. Program extended.
  • HealthPartners Dental – $10 per visit from June 17 – Sept 30.
    • Must use D1999
  • Premera – variable amount through November 1.
    • Must use D1999
  • Florida Combined Life – variable amount from May 1 – December 31.
    • Must use D1999.
  • UPMC – $7 per visit from July 15 – Sept 30. Using D1999.
  • Lincoln Dental – $10 per visit per visit from August 1. No end date identified at present.
    • Claims must include procedure code D1999.
  • GEHA – $7 per visit from July 1 through December 31.
    • Required to file D1999.
  • Sun Life – $10 per visit from October 1 through December 31, 2020.
    • Required to file D1999.
  • Guardian – $8 per visit from August 1 – October 31, 2020.

**We have heard that Altus, Always Care and Level TPA, but can’t find anything online or otherwise to validate.


Other PPE specific programs:

  • Delta Dental of TN, MI, OH, IN – $1,000 grant through Henry Schein.
  • Delta Dental RI – Award provided to providers to offset PPE costs based on patient volume.
  • Delta Dental MO – Award provided to providers to offset PPE costs based on patient volume.
  • Delta Dental AR – $2,500 grant to offset PPE costs.

Additional Financial Programs

We started keeping track, but then the ADA started doing it for us. Here is their list of additional financial programs available from payers to providers.

  • Delta Dental NE – increased payments from February 1 to March 17, 2020 to the Premier rates from PPO rates. Amounts will be paid to providers as relief. *We have seen online that they are providing $10/visit PPE relief. This has not been confirmed via NEDelta’s website.
  • Delta Dental WI – providing an award of between $500 and $10,000 per practice. This is a one-time payment based on DDWI member visits in 2019.

Fee Schedule Changes

1. Delta Dental of California

2. Guardian – Postponed new fee reviews during COVID-19.
3. Principal – Postponed new fee reviews during COVID-19. (They are back negotiating again as of 6/1/20)
4. Delta Dental of SD – increasing exam codes: D0120, D0140, D0145, D0150, D0160 and D0180.
5. BCBS KS – increasing fees by varying amounts over the course of the year, ending and returning to current fees January 1, 2021.
6. United Concordia increasing fees for Tricare effective July 1, 2020.

It covers the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act that allows businesses with under 500 employees to receive a 100% forgivable loan that can be used to pay for items including wages, mortgage interest, utilities and insurance premiums.
